This monograph is an amplified version of a lecture , delivered on the 4th of March, before the Cambridge University Physics Society. In its present form it intends to be both an introduction to the electrom microscope and a critical contribution to its theory.
De doelstelling van het boek wordt vorm gegeven in 14 hoofdstukken , een appendix, literatuurlijst en een nawoord. Hfdst 2 en 3 behandeld uitgangspunten en basisbegrippen om de werking van het instrument zoals dat in de hfdst. 4 tot 11 wordt uiteengezet te begrijpen. Het hfdst. 12 t/m 14 zijn toekomst gericht en bedoeld voor natuurkundigen en electronische ingenieurs. Voor de lezers die geen optische kennis hebben is in de appendix de optische functie uiteengezet.
Het boek is voorzien van vele foto’s, figuren en tekeningen.
De auteur D.Gabon heeft in 1971 voor baanbrekend onderzoek mbt holografie de nobelprijs gekregen voor Natuurkunde ( The Nobel Prize in Physics 1971, for his invention and development of the holographic method).
