XDUOO XD-10 POKEPortable Headphone Amplifier and DAC XMOS AK4490EQ 32bit 384kHz DSD256 GREEN

The xDuoo XD-10 or Poke is a portable amplifier and DAC, designed to accompany you on all your travels and to offer you the best of your music, in any situation. Really compact, it still offers incredible audio performance that in any situation. If it's an excellent product for those who want high quality amplification and digital-to-analog conversion, this device becomes a must-have for Sony ZX and A Series Walkman owners, with the XD-10 ensuring perfect compatibility.

A design that leaves no one indifferent
The XD-10 brings a design all in simplicity, sublimated by an Aluminium shell coloured of a metallic blue of the most beautiful effect. xDuoo having wished to provide a device completely compatible with the Walkman of Sony, this idea extends in the design of the device. Thus, the XD-10 takes again the form factor of Walkmans and especially their dimensions, in order to be able to make them cohabit perfectly.

Impeccable design quality
If the design seduces, the materials chosen for the design of this XD-10 are not left out. Thus one will find a frame completely out of Aluminium, at the same time anodized and sandblasted, conferring to the apparatus a robustness and an incomparable aesthetics. The color of the camera has also been chosen to match the vast majority of Walkmans.

Compact but powerful
As this is a device whose primary purpose is to accompany you during your travels, xDuoo has made it a point of honour to offer a compact and lightweight product that will easily fit in a pocket. However, the brand has in no way trimmed the performance of the XD-10 and it is capable of delivering 2x250mW under 32 Ohm. It will also be able to power and drive the vast majority of headsets.

Lowest noise and distortion
The XD-10 incorporates a high quality OPA1662 low pass AOP filter. It also incorporates an LDO regulator, greatly reducing distortion and noise. Thus, the XD-10 displays a Signal to Noise ratio of 112dB. This set of components contribute greatly to the magnificent reproduction of this amplifier / DAC, offering a great purity and sound richness.

A dynamic range for all tests
The XD-10's power stage adopts an extremely efficient conversion circuit to provide the entire unit with the best conditions for operation. It is this power circuit that allows xDuoo's new kid to produce a high dynamic range. So, whatever your use of the XD-10, to listen to music, play a video game or watch movies and series, this one will offer you an incomparable sound experience.

Walkman compatible
xDuoo wanted to offer a versatile and powerful device, but also an amplifier / DAC that could perfectly match the Sony Walkman ZX and A series. With its Sony USB Audio cable, the XD-10 becomes perfectly compatible with sony's DAPs, such as the A15/25, A35/45, ZX1, ZX2 and ZX100.

Compatible with all your devices
If xDuoo wanted to make its XD-10 perfectly compatible with Walkmans, the other devices are not left out. The Poke will easily fit all your devices, whether it's an Android or Apple smartphone, a computer or a CD player.

Powerful conversion stage with the AK4490
Based on recognized and high-performance DACs, the Poke is equipped with an AK4490 AKM Digital to Analog conversion chip, which supports high sampling rates in PCM, up to 32bit 384kHz, but also DSD and DXD. So you can enjoy your high definition files and maybe rediscover your favorite songs. In addition, the chip also supports all the most common audio files.

USB XMOS Interface
The new generation XMOS XS1-U8A-64 8-core chip is used in asynchronous transfer. This interface supports WASAPI, ASIO and KS. Like the XD-10 DAC, this XMOS supports sample rates up to 32bt 384kHz, DSD256 and DoP Native, and DxD 32bit 352.8kHz.

Dual clock
The Poke also incorporates two ultra-low phase noise oscillators as the clock. These oscillators operate at 44.1kHz and 48kHz and their multiples. The system then changes the clock to ensure that there is no interference and that each clock can operate independently.

Effective volume control
For volume control, the xDuoo XD-10 incorporates a PGA2311 TI control chip. This drastically reduces distortion to 0.0001% and avoids balancing problems between the left and right channels of conventional potentiometers.

A durable battery
The Poke has an ingenious feature to detect when the headset is plugged in in order to adapt the power supply and therefore reduce power consumption if necessary. This extends the battery life by two to three times.

Value and Conclusion

It looks like XD10 was much much better than I first expected it to be, and with all the bells and whistles it has to offer, I hope I helped clear your mind about it with my review. Just to make sure, the value and conclusion value part of this review, also serves as a little recap, and a much shorter version of the entire review.

Starting with the package, XD10 comes packaged with most accessories you will require for using it, lacking just the silicone straps to strap it to your transport. Even so, it comes with OTG cables for Type-C, microUSB, and even with a larger OTG cable, which seems to be for Walkmans. The package has a truly unique design I can only comment xDuoo for.

The build quality of XD10 is also quite excellent, being a fully metallic device, and with me having the black version, being really happy with using it. The casual and forward design is also part of the fun with XD-10, and I simply enjoy seeing it on my table, bringing a bit of fun to my overall listening rig. It also has a little OLED display that will show its current state and current settings, but XD10 comes with a large number of buttons and mechanical switches, making it the wet dream for many, who kept asking for those switches over and over.

There is a number of 4 Filters, which all sound quite similar, there is a bass boost, there is a line-out, and a line-in, and XD10 also has a gain switch, which I just left on High, like I do with most devices featuring one. XD10 feels feature-rich in general, and I like having quick control over the settings of a device, so it is quite a great little device for me.

The sonic performance is quite excellent for its price point, and if you had this budget, this would be really easy to recommend, if you were looking for a neutral, transparent, clear, clean, crisp, and detailed DAC/AMP, with a wide soundstage. With the bass boost, you get a thicker, more lush, deeper and more powerful sound, without distortion, and even without it, XD10 has a lot of driving power, being able to give true life, even to hard-to-drive planars, like HIFIMAN Sundara.

Overall, XD10 really brings something new to the table, it is a budget-friendly DAC/AMP, which features both a line-in and a line-out, it has a very functional bass boost function, it has a nice little display, it has a cool overall design, with a casual approach, and it is very easy to recommend if you're looking for excellent value, so don't forget to check it out for a clear, clean, crisp sound, a wide soundstage, a lot of cool features, and if you want to have an excellent sound, without breaking the bank.
