Snelle wereldzeiler, moderne lichte, maar sterke bouw
De Falcon 44 is een snelle one off cruiser/racer, in moderne materialen door de eigenaar gebouwd in samenwerking met Satellite yacht design, waarbij Satellite zorgde voor het ontwerp. De eigenaar nam in samenwerking met specialisten de afbouw voor zijn rekening, wat heeft geleid tot een snel, veilig en stijf schip dat tegen een stootje kan. De vaste en afsluitbare buiskap met twee zitplaatsen biedt een comfortabele beschutte plek bij minder goed weer. Met de hydraulisch ophaalbare kiel kan de diepgang van 2.50m verminderd worden tot 1.50m, zodat ook dat mooie ondiepe plekje bereikbaar is. Het schip heeft een veilige diepe kuip en aantal afsluitbare compartimenten. De bouwer/eigenaar heeft met het schip vele mijlen gevaren in het gebied van IJsland tot Vuurland.
Het open interieur is eenvoudig gehouden en ingericht voor twee tot maximaal 4 personen. De indeling is er op gericht om de functies van de boot goed te ondersteunen: Direct bij de ingang bevinden zich twee hoger geplaatste zeekooien voor een goed contact met de wacht en een goed zicht naar buiten. Daarachter aan stuurboord de navigatiehoek en het toilet. Aan bakboord bevindt zich de ruime kombuis met alle voorzieningen. Verder naar voren is de kajuit met tafel, twee langsbanken en een gerieflijke kachel. In de punt is een dubbel bed gecreëerd als slaapplaats in de haven.
De uitgangspunten bij het ontwerpen van het tuigplan zijn een gemakkelijke bediening en een hoge effectiviteit. De basisconfiguratie is een grootzeil en een high aspect fok. Vaak wordt ook de code zero gebruikt die op een rol voor de fok permanent bij staat. Een tweede passaatfok kan bij de high aspect gehesen worden en eventueel kan nog een gennaker op de steven of op een uitschuifbare boegspriet gevaren worden, dit zeil is echter minder geschikt voor short hand sailing. Aan de kotterstag kan eventueel nog een stormvoorzeil worden gehesen. De lange waterlijn met de forse zeilen en lichte bouw zorgt voor hoge daggemiddelden van wel 200 mijn per etmaal.

The owner, in cooperation with specialists, took care of the finishing, which has led to a fast, safe and rigid ship that can withstand a rough ride. The fixed and lockable sprayhood with two seats offers a comfortable sheltered spot in bad or cold weather. With the ballasted, hydraulically retractable keel, the draft of 2.50 m can be reduced to 1.50 m, so that that beautiful shallow spot can also be reached. The ship has a safe deep cockpit and a number of compartments. The builder/owner has sailed many miles with the ship in the area from Iceland to Tierra del Fuego.
The open interior is kept simple and equipped for a crew of 2 to maximum 4. The layout is designed to support the functions of the boat: Directly at the entrance there are two raised quarterbeds for a good contact with the watch on deck and a good view outside. On starboard are the navigation corner and the heads compartment. On port side is the spacious galley with all amenities. Further forward is the cabin with table, two long benches and a comfortable stove. In the bow is a double V-bed useful in the harbor.
The starting points for designing the rig were easy handling and high effectiveness. The basic configuration is a mainsail and a high aspect jib. Often the code zero is used that is permanently on a roller in front of the jib. A second jib for the trade winds can be hoisted at the high aspect and possibly a gennaker can be sailed on the stem or on an extendable bowsprit, however this sail is less suitable for short hand sailing. A storm headsail can be hoisted on the cutterstay. The long waterline with its large sails and light construction ensures high daily averages of up to 200 Nm. per day.
