“If I am alive when darkness falls, I will go down the hill to the cove, and swim out to where the sloop bobs at her mooring. I see her as my only escape from the hunters who will come with the darkness, through the screen of pines and along the dirt road.
Shall I say it started innocuously? But nothing starts innocuously; it simply starts. And since the telephone call from Mort Beach it has gone a long and deadly wag.
