Ter ere van zijn 70e verjaardag bracht Paul Simon op 24 oktober 2011 het album 'Songwriter' uit. Dit project is een initiatief van Paul zelf, die uit zijn omvangrijke catalogus persoonlijk een aantal nummers heeft uitgekozen waar hij het meest trots op is en die zijn leven tot dan toe het beste beschrijven. 'Songwriter' is geen standaard best of - veel van zijn grootste hits staan niet op de tracklist - maar laat in plaats hiervan zijn verborgen of ondergewaardeerde meesterstukjes horen.
