Dit is een verslag van de 1997 editie van de "Heineken Night of the proms". Dit jaarlijks terugkerende muziekspektakel slaat op uiterst succesvolle wijze een brug tussen klassieke en popmuziek. Het popgedeelte werd verzorgd door Total Touch ("One moment your mind" en "Somebody else's lover"), Deborah 'Blondie' Harry ("Call me"), Simple Minds ("Belfast child" en "Don't you (forget about me)") en Coolio("C U when you get there"). John Miles zingt, begeleid door pianist Wayne Marshall en het Il Novecento orkest, "All by myself". Enkele van de klassieke stukken zijn: "Also sprach Zarathustra" van R. Strauss, "Capriccio Italien" van Tchaikovsky en Elgar's "Land of hope and glory".
