Er zijn in het algemeen vier redenen waarom ik u dit boek van harte aanbeveel. De eerste twee zijn verborgen in zowel de technische als de publicerende kwaliteiten van beide auteurs. Rafaël Zdoroviak, oorspronkelijk afkomstig uit de Sovjetrepubliek Moldavië maar nu woonachtig in Hannover, had al verschillende publicaties op zijn naam staan toen hij in 2005 de damwereld aangenaam verraste met een boek waarin hij meer dan honderd wedstrijden bespreekt die hij uitgespeeld heeft tegen grootmeesters uit van zijn lange carrière. En Leo Springer, die overigens niet alleen een verdienstelijke damspeler is, maar ook zeker bekendheid geniet als damprobleembouwer en vooral als eindspelcomponist in de damwereld. Maar ik had het over vier redenen, niet slechts twee. Wel nu. De andere twee redenen om in te gaan op het verzoek om een bescheiden voorwoord te schrijven, liggen in de persoonlijke relatie die ik met beide auteurs heb.(…)
De lezer van dit boek wens ik hierbij veel plezier met dit gezamenlijke product van het koppel Zdoroviak/Springer en spreek hierbij de hoop uit dat dit boek gemakkelijk zijn weg naar het (dam)publiek zal vinden! Ton Sijbrands

There are, in general, four reasons why I warmly recommend this book to you. The first two are hidden in both the technical and publishing qualities of both authors. Rafaël Zdoroviak, originally from the Soviet Republic of Moldova but now living in Hannover, already had several publications to his name when he pleasantly surprised the draughts world in 2005 with a book in which he discusses more than a hundred games he has played against grandmasters out of his long career. And Leo Springer, who by the way is not only an undeserved draughts player, but certainly enjoys fame as a draughts problem constructor and especially as an endgame composer in the world of draughts. But I was talking about four reasons, not just two. Well now. The other two reasons for responding to the request to write a modest preface are in the personal relationship I have with both authors.(...)
