Picture, then, a haughty British woman progressing on horseback from Tangier down to Marrakesh, enjoying a somewhat testy relationship with the native population and generally getting her own way. This is Ms Macnab at her best opinionated and brooking no nonsense, she ride imperiously among the inhabitants noting with a keen eye every detail of their lives and manners.
